Job Summary: The Institutional Consultant proactively fosters relationships with potential new clients and referral sources and provides consultative investment advisory services to existing clients across the areas of investment policy, asset allocation, manager selection, alternatives, and performance measurement.

Key Responsibilities: Responsible for expanding new business development through prospecting, nurturing relationships with COIs, and generating proposals consistent with firm strategies for business development.
  • Provide consultative investment advisory services based on an understanding of each client’s unique goals and objectives.
  • Be an active member of the Institutional Advisory Services Team that strives to be thought leaders in the broad areas of institutional consulting and investments with demonstrated knowledge and understanding of industry trends and knowledge of Goelzer’s competitive landscape.
  • Ensure effective and timely communication is provided to clients in a conscientious manner that aligns with client needs, firm standards, and industry expertise.
  • Provide clients with investment strategy and advice in accordance with Goelzer’s philosophy, current outlook, and policies.
  • Maintain an ongoing, responsive, and proactive relationship with each client, including meeting with investment committees, Board of Directors, and staff on a periodic basis to review their portfolios.
  • Work with portfolio manager(s) to ensure that the investment portfolios for those clients are managed in accordance with the written investment policy and Goelzer’s policies.
  • Comfortable presenting to boards of directors, investment committees, finance committees, and other groups.
  • Perform additional services as appropriate to meet and exceed each client’s needs and expectations, including custodial and investment manager searches and evaluation.
Work Experience / Knowledge:
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience with an investment advisory or consulting firm.
  • Experience in business development or B2B sales highly desired.
  • Relevant experience in institutional advisory and consulting is strongly preferred.
  • Broad familiarity with institutional advisory and portfolio management concepts.
  • Solid knowledge of the capital markets, broad asset classes and related indices, alternatives, investment structures, performance attribution, and analytical tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to present complex topics to boards and committees in an understandable manner.

  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and consultative investment advisory skills.
  • Dedication to professionalism, ethics, and confidentiality
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills (i.e., financial and data analysis).
  • Passion for the industry and a constant desire to continually learn and research relevant subject matter
  • Proficiency with MS Office: Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills required,
  • Ability to quickly master the firm’s CRM is essential: experience with Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics or similar is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), organizational skills, and keen attention to detail are critical.
  • Ability to produce high-quality work in a demanding, time-constrained, environment is crucial.
  • Demonstrate initiative, creativity, judgment, maturity, and poise.
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree required: Economics, Finance, Financial Planning and Statistics & Mathematics preferred. Coursework in Behavioral Sciences and Communications is a plus.
  • CFA, CIMA and/or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation highly desirable.
